Rotary is committed is to offering young people opportunities to unlock their potential, develop their skills and broaden their horizons. Here in Windsor and Eton Rotary Club we do this in a number of ways including:
Youth Speaks: Challenge your public speaking abilities and perform, persuade and entertain the audience with your display of wit and knowledge of a topic. In teams of three participants present arguments and points of discussion, before taking questions from the judging panel who are, themselves, skilled orators. Participants can select a topic which is important to them, giving them an opportunity to delve deep into research, formulate ideas and build confidence.
From local and regional heats through to national levels, these contests are a great way to be challenged in a fun and friendly environment, plus there are great prizes up for grabs too. With support all the way from us, there is no reason not to take the leap and enter.
We support all the schools in the Windsor and Eton area, offering grants for projects and our members expertise to help with specific areas such as finance, marketing, strategy etc. We are pleased to have recently supported Queen Anne First School to fund work on their lost Garden and Pond areas. We are also working with other schools to provide after school clubs, speakers and further grants.
Working with Eton College we are grateful that this highly regarded College will be redistributing text books to schools and groups overseas to further educate children in rural communities that don't have access to the resources we have here in the UK.
In conjunction with Windsor St George Rotary Club we provide dictionaries to local school children on an annual basis.
Rotary for Under 18's
In addition to the many competitions and award schemes there is a range of other opportunities for the younger generation.
Windsor Girls School Interact Club, sponsored by our club,is very active and last year raised over £2,000 for 3 charities. Interact is for 12 -18 year olds and is the fastest growing branch of the Rotary family.
Rotakids, the latest addition to the family, based in Primary Schools. We are currently working with Trevelyan School to form a new club there to recognise what an enriching addition they can be to citizenship areas of the curriculum, with their opportunities to engage with a wide range of projects - both at home and overseas.
